Bovine IVF

Build a breeding program around your selected donor genetics.

Work at an embryology laboratory

What is bovine IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) starts with the collection of unfertilized eggs, or oocytes, from a donor’s ovaries. The eggs are matured, fertilized with selected semen, and cultured in a laboratory. Suitable embryos can then be considered for transfer into recipient cattle.

Planning for your herd

IVF may be an option for producers seeking more offspring from selected donors. Donor suitability, semen availability, laboratory coordination, and recipient capacity all influence the plan. Boyden Veterinary can discuss how IVF fits your breeding objectives.

Not every recovered egg becomes a transferable embryo, and not every transfer results in a pregnancy. Donor response, embryo quality, and recipient health vary. A veterinary assessment is needed before deciding on an approach.
