Embryo Collection

Conventional embryo production from selected donor cattle.

What is embryo collection?

In a conventional collection program, embryos develop inside the donor after veterinary-supervised ovarian stimulation and insemination. Embryos are then recovered from the uterus, typically through a nonsurgical flush, and evaluated for further use.

Discuss Embryo Collection

Planning for your herd

Embryo collection may suit producers who want to multiply the genetics of selected donor females. Unlike IVF, fertilization and early development occur in the animal rather than in a laboratory. Donor assessment, semen selection, and recipient planning help determine whether this approach is appropriate.

Donors respond differently, so embryo numbers and quality cannot be guaranteed. Reproductive health and veterinary-supervised scheduling matter. Boyden Veterinary will discuss individual suitability and the steps needed before a collection.
